Website Designing

February 16th, 2010

For a while now, my website designing website (Whimsy Flavor Designs) has been down. This has been for several reasons such as being busy with school and life. Now that I’ve taken some time to think things through and make some decisions, I will be reopening the shop in the next few weeks. I’m very excited to do this, and I will post some more on my ideas and some of the changes over the course of the next few weeks. If you need a website, please contact me.

Painting is a pain in the butt. Nuff said.

December 15th, 2009

I think the last time I painted was at my parents’ house when I was in high school, and I’m not going to lie. I’m pretty sure my mom painted most of it. Plus, I had only one window, a closet door, and the entrance door. So my painting “job” was pretty simple that time. When we decided to paint the downstairs of the house during my winter break I was all for it, and I still am - just not as excited. My hands are blistered, and I’m pretty sure my right shoulder wants to kill me. It is finished though, and I am so happy.

Here is what the room looked like before. It had a lot of brown, and it was very closed in. While Elway is not a hyperactive dog, he is really HUGE, so not having that much space between furniture did become a problem. So we cleared everything out (minus the couch) to make room to paint and to start from scratch furniture wise.

Then we started taping things off and putting paper down to protect the floors.

Paint5 I must say. Taping was probably the worst part for me. We kept the plastic that wrapped our new mattress just for this project. Because I wanted a deep purple, I asked some resources and decided to use Benjamin Moore paints. Initially I chose “summer plum”, but after we bought the paint and took it home. I realized that was not what I wanted without even painting anything. I took it back and luckily they were able to darken it, and I can’t say enough good things about Star City Paint. I had them darken it as close to “grape juice” as possible, but really our color is a custom color. It’s pretty darn close to grape juice though.

Here are the walls with just the primer:

My new jewelry board.

I got the idea from here, and I modified it to be horizontal. I have a lot of necklaces, and I wanted to be sure I would have enough space for them without them jumbling up. Yes, I know the middle ribbon is crooked - sigh. I am in the process of fixing it, and no, I can’t let it be.

I love Christmas.

December 3rd, 2009

Christmas is probably my favorite holiday. Actually, I enjoy all of the holidays that you decorate for including Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. There’s something about the spirit of them that I enjoy immensely. To  kick off this holiday season, I started with the tree. I bought this 6 foot, white tree last year, and I  love how it looks with the blue and silver. What I don’t love is how it looks borderline Charlie Brown Christmas tree because I don’t know how to properly “fluff” it. Luckily, my great aunt live just a hop, skip, and a jump away, and she recognized a tree in distress. So she’ll be by once I call her to help me. For now though, here is the tree in all its glory. Unfortunately, I seem to be missing an entire box of decorations, so for now things are a little bare.

Winter Projects

November 24th, 2009

While I finished the quarter last week, it really just means that the next month and a half I spend completing projects that went to the back burner. Here’s to completing them by the end of the year!

  1. Sand and paint dressers
  2. Apply to graduate school
  3. Get approval to take the FE
  4. Get through Thanksgiving Dinner successfully
  5. Organize the bedroom
  6. Organize the study/work room
  7. Clean the car out
  8. Get the gutters up
  9. Find and purchase books for next quarter
  10. Get things together to study for the FE
  11. Organize the utility room
  12. Paint the living room

Whew! I didn’t put every single thing that I want to do on there, because these are the most important. So I want to complete this list, and then I’ll add to it as time goes. Now I’m off to start working on getting some of these things crossed off the list.

Close on September 30!

September 22nd, 2009

Front of the House Whew! I can’t even believe it’s been over a month since I’ve posted. Life has been rather hectic and busy, and trying to get to bed before midnight has been something I’ve only accomplished several times.

In exactly one week and one day, the house will be ours! I can’t express how excited we are to move in and take pictures. We haven’t bought a single solitary item for the house because we were waiting until we moved in to make sure they were really what we wanted. So we’re chomping at the bit to buy some new things for the house.

When we move in though, we’ll have a lot of minor things that we’ll need to do for the house to make it feel more like ours before winter hits. Very first thing, we’ll need to repair the fence. The existing fence is still there, but since the previous owners did not have a dog, they removed the back portion to make a drive up to the back of the house. Also, you can sort of tell from the photo, the fence doesn’t meet the front of the house. So we will need to put the fence back up, and once we get it up and in working order, we want to paint it a shiny new white color and seal it to protect it before winter hits.

Additionally, we want to paint the interior first floor. While we can wait a little longer to do this, we want to get it done before it’s too cold to open the windows for ventilation. After quizzing a few sources (here & here & here) via Twitter we’ve decided to go with Benjamin Moore for the plum paint color we chose for the dining room and kitchen. It’s a bit pricier, but to be honest, with such a dark color I don’t want to be painting over and over again. The lighter blue we may choose to go with Behr, but if we love Benjamin Moore for the plum, we’ll just go with them again for the blue, too.

Now I must get back to packing!
